Spotlight on a project: Basic Projects
Basic Projects
This home in Charleston is the perfect example of how to embrace the original features and history of a home, all the while adapting it for a growing family. With nods to history throughout, local company Basic Projects have thoughtfully reimagined the space - once a merchant’s home - with modern functionality: read on for all the details. Pattern Play
There’s a playful touch maintained throughout the home, whether through larger ticket items like textiles, paint and flooring or smaller additions like lighting. Wooden floors are softened with rugs like this patchwork design in the living room; tiling isn’t reserved solely for the bathroom - the kitchen and mudroom feature a monochrome marble that offsets its surroundings perfectly.
"The best design is functional first"
By bringing the pattern onto the walls rather than the floor, this clever kids room inversely mirrors others in the home: a neutral jute rug helps to balance out the busier Morris & Co. wallpaper. A Rattan Wave Pendant complements the natural materials and brings in a traditional silhouette reimagined in this characterful space.
